Per their Facebook post on Tuesday, Jan. 11, Cordell Public Schools announced the cancellation of the Homecoming basketball game set for that evening. The notice read, “Due to COVID issues Carnegie will not be able to play tonight. Homecoming and Senior Night will be on January, 25th. Sorry for any inconvenience.” Carnegie’s girl basketball team had too many of their players sick to be able to attend the game and their boys basketball team only had six players available to play.
The ongoing rise of COVID continues to have an impact on Cordell Schools. “It’s been pretty mild so far, there’s some cases here and there. We’ve seen a pretty large uptick this week with students and with staff members. It seems to be more at the elementary than at the junior high and high school right now,” said Brad Overton, Cordell Superintendent. The number of absent staff members has increased over the past couple of days.
Virtual learning, although not ideal, may be utilized once again. “We’re going to do all we can to avoid going back to virtual learning because it’s tough on the kids, teachers and parents. We’ll continue to do what we can to avoid it but it certainly is an option if we don’t have the staff to have school,” stated Overton.
