BASEBALL

The Cordell Blue Devil Baseball team kicked off the season with a bang last Monday and hasn't taken a single loss since. The boys started the season 3-0, entering this week, and hope to continue their winning pattern.

Mon, March 8,

Cordell 16, Fairview 6

The Cordell Blue Devils set the tone for the rest of the season with their first game, beating the Fairview Yellow Jackets by 10 runs.

Senior Ryan Neeley was the winning pitcher, striking out seven batters, and not allowing a single earned run from Fairview. Senior Raydon Kuehne was credited by Head Coach Bobby Blackburn for two outstanding plays from the shortstop position. The Cordell boys hit big at the plate in this game, with Kuehne leading the team with a homerun and five runs batted in.

Tues, March 9,

Cordell 13, Fairview 0

The Cordell Blue Devils dominated Fairview again in a game the following day, proving that Monday’s win wasn't just beginner’s luck.

As the winning pitcher of the game, senior Adden Zanghi struck out 11 opposing batters, without a walk or earned run. Blackburn commended Danny Schmidt for his performance at second base and Kuehne’s performance at shortstop. Junior Dawson Willard came up big for the Devils, hitting a home run with five runs batted in.

Thurs, March 11, Cordell 11, Carnegie 0 In their third and final battle of the week, the Devils defeated the Carnegie Wildcats.

Willard served as the winning pitcher of this game, striking out 10 batters, with zero earned runs.

The Devils did well on the field in this game, Blackburn specifically mentioning two great catches from centerfielder Dane Corbin, Kuehne’s performance at shortstop, and Kameron Rivera’s two fine plays from second base.

The Lady Blue Devils faced a tough opponent last week, falling to the Mount Saint Mary Lady Rockets.

Head Coach Darrin Taylor applauded Senior Goalie Andrea Palmer for keeping several enemy shots out of the net.
