A grueling eight hour long 100 inning softball game played Wednesday morning into the afternoon pitted the junior high Lady Blue Devil softball team against the high school Lady Blue Devils.
This extended game was used as a fundraiser for the team to pay for the season’s expenses, such as feeding the girls on long trips and replacing broken equipment. The girls earned $2700 with this fundraiser, a pretty penny to keep them afloat during the season.
This game was a great opportunity for the girls to show off all of the new things they have learned over the summer. The teams handled the competition well and maintained a happy-go-lucky attitude throughout the game, cracking jokes between plays and exchanging affirmations often.
The HS Lady Blue Devils took the win with a score of 64-51. The girls played hard and ran fast, putting all of their effort into every play. Coach Whitney Misak reported seeing a competitive spirit she hasn’t seen much of before with these girls, an exciting new mindset sure to make the Cordell Lady Blue Devil teams into strong competitors.
According to Misak, “Both teams hit the ball very well and were able to come up with good hits with runners on in key situations,” showing they have the skills necessary to pull off a winning season if they put their minds to it.
The game served as an excellent practice for the girls going into the 2020 season, which opens Aug. 10 in Texhoma.
The teams and their coaches would like to thank everyone who came out or donated their time “ we would not have been able to pull it off without everyone” said Misak.
