Lady Blue Devils Place Fourth In Burns Flat

The Lady Blue Devils overcame a first round loss to Thomas to bounce back and claim fourth place in the Burns Flat-Dill City Tournament last week.

Cordell’s girls started out Thursday against Thomas and struggled throughout the game. In the end, Thomas carried the 58-21 win over the Lady Devils.

“We definitely struggled during our first round game,” said head coach Jana Rogers. “Thomas is able to make us very uncomfortable, but in time, hopefully, we will get better with the pressure. Bailey Troub led us with nine points.”

Cordell showed a much better look against the tournament hosts, the Burns Flat-Dill City Lady Eagles. The Lady Devils’ offensive display was the best so far in the young season, with good balance from the entire starting group. After a couple of tense moments late in the game, Cordell came off the court with a 52-47 win and a spot in the consolation championship game on Saturday.

“In the second game against Burns Flat-Dill City we actually had a great offensive game,” Rogers said. “We played solid all four quarters and had good, balanced double digit scoring in all quarters. Andrea Palmer and Kamdyn Davis led us with 15 each.”

Saturday’s game was a rematch against the Lady Bearcats of Hobart, a team Cordell defeated on their home court just eight days ago. The Lady Devils’ offense wasn’t as potent against Hobart as it was against the Lady Eagles the previous day, but the defense really stepped up to keep Hobart’s shooters in check. In the end, though, the Lady Bearcats exacted their revenge upon the Lady Devils and took the consolation championship with a 32-27 win, pushing Cordell into fourth place.

“In the final game we played great defense but we struggled to score,” Rogers said. “I saw our post step up and get some great offensive rebounds for us. Kenlee Dodd hit her first three-pointer of the year. Hopefully that will boost her confidence and help us in the future. I do feel we are improving every game and that’s all I can ask of them. So, even though we came up short, I think it was a good weekend for us.”
