At approximately 9:58 pm, Saturday, July 6, 2024, the Bessie Fire Department (BFD) received a page for a House fire at 309 W. 6th St.Bessie responded with 12 firefighters, three brush trucks, a tanker, an engine, and a rescue unit. Cordell responded with three personnel and a ladder truck.

Former Republican Senator Jim Inhofe, the longest- serving U.S. Senator in Oklahoma history, has died at 89 after suffering a stroke on July 4th.After serving four terms in the House, Inhofe was elected to the Senate in a special election in 1994.

Cordell’s Penny Berry retiring after 23 years at WTC

After 34 years in education and the last 23 being with Western Technology Center, Penny Berry has declared that “it’s time to repurpose my time” and retire.Penny began her tenure with WTC as the Tech Prep Coordinator where she worked with all WTC’s sending schools.

State executes Rojem

Oklahoma prison officials reported that Richard Rojem, Jr. was successfully executed on June 27th.Rojem was convicted in 1984 of the kidnapping, rape and murder of his 7-year-old former stepdaughter, Layla Cummings.

First Farm Exhibits Since 1941 Expected to Be Quality

1949Washita county’s first free fair since 1941 which will open in Cordell next Monday will star county farm exhibits and will feature a varied series of entertainment events including amateur rodeo, saddle horse races, baseball games, band concerts, and music by WKY radio stars.
