September is “Healthy Aging Month”, this is to remind us of the importance of following a healthy lifestyle to ensure we age comfortably. This is for everyone, no matter what age, what you do now affects how healthy you are at each age of your life.
A couple of things to help you, it is important to take charge of our lives with all the information we need to keep ourselves on track. Knowledge is power! Another is to take the time to learn new skills to ensure you have a well-balanced life, some say work/life balance and most of us know that can be a challenge in our life. It is good for you and good for your family to have a well-balanced life.
We had two sessions in early September to help answer questions, help with completing the enrollment for Medicare and help to manage your Medicare plan. These were well attended by those who are new to Medicare this year and we received information from SWODA to help answer questions; it was great discussion. We will have information available to you when you come to the hospital, and we can provide information to help you understand the difference between Medicare and Medicare Advantage as well as what to watch for in this misleading marketing. The numbers available to you include the Oklahoma Insurance Department, Medicare Assistance Program (MAP), 1-800-5220071 or www.map.oid.ok.gov. as well as the staff in the Business Office at CMH.
This is a time of change in healthcare and Medicare with all the advantage programs is a large part of change in the healthcare world.
We are partnering with Oklahoma Foundation for Medical Quality (OFMQ) and the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma (RFBO) to provide medically tailored meals to those individuals with diabetes and/or any cardiovascular disease such as high blood pressure and/or congestive heart failure. This program begins at the end of September and is for 9 months, and the goal is to improve or maintain the health of any individual living with these medical conditions. We are committed to helping improve the health in western Oklahoma. If you are interested, please contact your medical provider.
September is also National Suicide Prevention Month, and it is time to raise awareness about suicide as a serious public health problem, and everyone plays a role in preventing suicide. Make it a priority to learn how to be there for the people you care about. On September 27, 2025, Cordell will be having a Community Walk for Suicide Prevention, Love is an Action. Registration is at 8:00 am and the walk begins at 10:00am. Please check our Facebook page for more information.
I will continue to provide you with the information about services we offer, and I ask you to contact me with any questions, suggestions or concerns.
