Cordell’s Farmers Market will return to the Pocket Park on Monday, September 7, giving residents and visitors another opportunity to shop local, support small businesses and enjoy an evening together in the heart of Cordell.
The market will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Pocket Park across from the Washita Theater on South Market Street. The event is free to attend, and families are encouraged to come out and enjoy the evening on the square.
The market typically features around 11 vendors, but the Chamber is always looking for additional local makers and entrepreneurs. Vendors are welcome as long as they offer handmade or homemade items. The Chamber is also encouraging local artists to participate.
“If you paint, create, make or do anything artistic, we would love to have you come out and show off your work,” Sara Lau, Executive Director of the Cordell Chamber of Commerce said. “We want the Farmers Market to be a place where people can discover the talented people we have right here in our community.”
Cordell’s Farmers Market is held on the first Monday of the month and was created by the Cordell Chamber of Commerce as a way to bring people together while giving local farmers, makers and small business owners an opportunity to share their products with the community.
“We wanted to create something that brings people together on a weeknight while also giving our local business owners a place to get their products in front of more people,” said Lau. “We want people to be able to find great local products right here in Cordell.”
The market features a wide variety of locally made and homemade products. Shoppers may find fresh baked breads and pastries, cookies, sweet treats, jams, jellies, pickled items, salsa, freeze-dried fruits and vegetables, farm-fresh beef and pork, sourdough, ice cream and individual bundt cakes in several flavors.
Other vendors offer herbal tea blends, handmade body products, essential-oil-infused creams and lotions, natural balms, homemade soaps and sugar scrubs, beeswax candles, wax melts, crafts, sewing and crochet projects and other handmade goods.
For those looking for something to eat while they shop, the market will also feature food options including Indian tacos, loaded nachos, wings and chicken baskets, appetizers, lemonades, teas and bottled sodas.
There is a $10 setup fee for vendors who wish to sell their items. Those interested in participating can contact the Cordell Chamber of Commerce at cordellokevents@gmail.com.
While the summer temperatures can make an outdoor market warm, organizers hope the evening will be about more than simply shopping.
Visitors are encouraged to take their time, walk around the square, take pictures, visit with friends and neighbors and simply enjoy an evening in downtown Cordell.
