Participants needed for July 4th parade

The community is invited to start Independence Day with excitement and hometown pride at the annual Fourth of July Hometown Celebration Parade, set to begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 4.

This year’s parade will open with a special presentation as the Altus Air Force Base Honor Guard brings in the flags. Executive Director of the Cordell Chamber, Sarah Lau shared their appreciation, noting they are grateful to Altus Air Force Base for helping make the event even more meaningful and patriotic.

The parade will kick off a full day of festivities and is expected to bring together local residents, families, businesses, and visitors for a fun and patriotic morning in downtown Cordell.

Participants will line up beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the intersection of 5th Street and Fleming Street. From there, the parade will travel east down 5th Street, head south on Fleming, and then turn west onto 3rd Street.

The parade will conclude at the corner of 3rd Street and Massingale.

The Cordell Chamber encouraging wide community involvement and emphasize that participation is free and open to everyone. Veterans, local businesses, community groups, and individuals are all welcome to join.

“We want to make this parade fun and memorable for everyone,” organizers shared. “Bring out your classic cars, decorate floats, drive your golf carts, or simply walk and be part of the celebration.”

Those interested in participating are asked to contact the Chamber of Commerce ahead of time to help organizers plan accordingly and ensure a smooth event.

For those who prefer to watch, attendees are encouraged to arrive early to secure a good viewing spot. Convenient parking will be available at the Washita County Activity Center, which also provides an excellent location to watch the parade.

As always, candy may be thrown during the parade, but organizers remind participants to do so safely by tossing it away from vehicles to help protect children and spectators.

The parade serves as the official kickoff to Cordell’s Fourth of July Hometown Celebration, setting the tone for a day filled with community spirit, family fun, and patriotic pride.
