The Washita Theater in downtown Cordell is introducing a new movie schedule aimed at better aligning with industry trends and bringing the latest films to local audiences.
Beginning immediately, the theater will be closed on Thursdays. Movies will now be shown on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:00 p.m., with a Sunday matinee at 3:00 p.m. Doors will open one hour prior to each showtime, giving moviegoers plenty of time to grab concessions and find their seats.
All showings will be offered at regular admission prices.
The change comes as movie studios increasingly release new films on Fridays, particularly during the busy summer season. Industry trends show that major releases are often timed for weekend openings to maximize attendance and excitement around new films.
Washita Theater manager, Sarah Lau, said the updated schedule allows the theater to stay current with release patterns while continuing to provide a quality movie- going experience for the community.
“We want to make sure we’re bringing the newest movies to Cordell as soon as they’re available,” Sarah shared. “This schedule helps us do that while still offering a great experience for our customers.”
The theater also noted that attendance will continue to be evaluated, particularly for Sunday showings. If turnout is lower than expected, adjustments to dates or times may be considered in the future.
Community members are encouraged to come out and support the Washita Theater during this transition.
“We want to thank everyone for supporting us through this change and for continuing to support the Washita Theater,” Sarah said. “We’re proud to be a part of this community.”
Residents and visitors alike are invited to enjoy a movie at the Washita Theater, right in the heart of Cordell.
