The Western Plains Library System is inviting area children and families to dig into a summer full of books, learning, and entertainment with its 2026 Summer Reading Program, “Unearth A Story,” running from May 18 through June 26.
Designed to keep young readers engaged during the summer months, the annual program encourages children to continue building reading skills while enjoying fun educational activities and live performances.
Through the Western Plains Library System, the Cordell Public Library will host a lineup of weekly performances at 10 a.m. each Wednesday throughout the program.
The entertainment schedule includes:
• May 20 — Buckaroo Bart
• May 27 — Mad Science
• June 2 — Rocky Mountain Puppets
• June 10 — Hooplahoma
• June 17 — Cowboy Buck
• June 24 — Extreme Animals From science experiments and puppet performances to western- themed entertainment and live animal encounters, this year’s lineup offers a variety of interactive experiences for children of all ages.
Summer reading programs help encourage literacy and continued learning while school is out, giving children an opportunity to stay engaged through books, activities, and community events.
