Cordell Blue Devils gear up for Homecoming Showdown

The Cordell Blue Devils are ready to play some ball after starting the week off with festivities leading up to the excitement of the Homecoming showdown against the Sayre Eagles on Friday, January 17th, beginning at 6:30 p.m. As students continue through Homecoming week, full of fun and creative dress-up days like Decades Day and Holidaze, as well as the much-anticipated crowning of the 2025 Homecoming Queen during the coronation ceremony before the girls game at 5:45 p.m., here’s a closer look at this year’s outstanding Homecoming candidates and their escorts.

Sophomore Candidate: Calliy Walker 

Miss Calliy is the 16-year-old daughter of Starla Walker and Justin Walker. Calily is a proud Lady Blue Devil, wearing #1 on the basketball court, running cross country and track, a CHS Fellowship of Christian Athletes member, and is active in the Calvary Baptist Church Youth Group. Calliy is a 2nd time Cross Country Regional Champion and a top 5 finisher at the state Cross Country Meet. She was named Cross Country All-Stater for the last two years. Last year, Calliy was the 2A Regional Track Champion in the 1600m run and the 3200m run and finished in the top ten in both events at the 2A State Track meet. During the 2023-2024 Basketball season, Calliy was named Shortgrass Honorable Mention and was named to the CBA All-Tournament Team. Calliy is the Sophomore Class President at school and was a Student of the 9 Weeks in November 2024. Calliy enjoys spending her time at basketball practice with Coach Love, Coach Brown, and all of her Lady Blue Devil Teammates. She enjoys running, hanging out with her friends and family, and going to her Nana and Papa’s house. Calliy would like to thank everyone who voted for her and her friends and family for their love and support in everything she does.

Escorting Calliy is Jacob Vela. Jacob is the 17-year-old junior son of Martin and Tera Vela. Jacob is a proud Cordell Blue Devil wearing #20 on the court. He is also active in Football, BPA, FCCLA, Soccer and Cross Country. During the Cross Country season, Jacob qualified for State and was able to compete at the state Cross Country Meet. In his free time, Jacob enjoys playing video games, listening to music, watching television and YouTube, and spending time hanging out with his brother Desi and sister Aubrey. Jacob would like to thank his mom and dad for their spiritual, physical, and mental guidance and faith in him, but most importantly, their endless love and support. Jacob would also like to thank his siblings, Aubrey and Desi, for getting him through life and school. Finally, Jacob would like to thank Mrs. Horn for coaching him in Cross Country and encouraging him to be the best athlete he can be.

Junior Candidate: Jacie McCown

Miss Jacie is the 18-year-old daughter of Mark and Vanessa McCown. She is active in Cordell High School’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is a Junior Class Student Council Representative. Jacie is on both the CHS soccer and softball teams. She is a football and basketball cheerleader for the Blue Devils and runs track. Jacie enjoys hanging out with her friends and cheer team, walking the track with Jaylnn, and devoting her life to the Lord. Jacie would like to thank her church family for supporting her in everything she does and helping her grow in her faith. She is exceptionally grateful for her family and friends’ support throughout her life. Escorting Jacie is Junior Eathan Fenning, the 16-year-old son of Josh and Felisha Fenning. Eathan is a proud Cordell Blue Devil Basketball team member, served as a captain of the Blue Devil football team, and is also an active member of Cordell High School’s cross-country and baseball teams. Outside of school, Eathan enjoys spending quality time with his younger brother and sister and hanging out with friends at Puckett’s.

Eathan would like to share this heartfelt message for his family: “Thank you, Dad and Felisha, for everything you’ve done to help me become the person I am today. Your guidance, support, and endless sacrifices have shaped me in ways words can’t fully express. You’ve been there for me through every challenge, encouraging me to grow stronger, work harder, and believe in myself. I wouldn’t be where I am today without your wisdom and example. I’m incredibly grateful for all you’ve done, and I hope to continue making you proud.”

Senior Candidate: Britton Shields

Miss Britton is the 18-year-old daughter of Chris and Dena Shields. Britton is very active at Cordell High School, where she is currently an FFA Chapter Officer, a Senior Cheer Captain, a member of the FCA Leadership Council, the Senior Class Vice President, a Student Council Vice President, and a member of the Cordell Shooting Sports Team. Britton was named the Senior Student of the Month at Cordell High School in December. Britton enjoys spending time with her family and friends, going to the lake, getting coffee, spending time in God’s word, and visiting Mrs. Campbell throughout her day. After graduation, Britton will attend SWOSU in Weatherford to pursue a degree in history education. Britton would like to thank her family, her teachers, and most importantly, the Lord for everything she has the opportunity to do.

Escorting Britton is Senior Matthew Fuller. Matthew is the 18-year-old son of Crystal and Damon Kautz, and Marcus Fuller. Matthew proudly wears number 3 on the Cordell Blue Devil Basketball team. Matthew is also a Pride of Cordell Band member, the Academic team, the Blue Devil Soccer team, and a Student Council Representative. Matthew was a part of the 2024 State Runner-Up Academic Team and was named an Academic All-Star. He will be competing this Saturday in the Area Academic meet. Matthew is a proud member of the Cordell Blue Band. He qualified for the 2024 All-State Band of Oklahoma on saxophone. At the All-State Band competition in 2024, Matthew received straight ones at Solo and Ensemble. Matthew enjoys sitting at home, playing music, and hanging out with his family. After graduation, Matthew plans to attend SWOSU and major in secondary education, emphasizing history. Matthew wants to thank his mom for providing for him and his siblings and ensuring he always does his best.

The Homecoming excitement is undeniable as the Cordell fans prepare to rally behind their Blue Devils. Don’t miss the chance to cheer on the teams as they battle it out on the court against the Sayre Eagles and witness the crowning of Cordell’s 2025 Homecoming Queen. Go, Big Blue!
