WASHITA COUNTY SCHOOLS HONOR VETERANS WITH CEREMONIES AND TRIBUTES

As our nation pauses to honor the sacrifices of veterans, schools throughout Washita County will pay tribute to these brave men and women. Veterans Day holds a significant meaning for many within our Washita County communities, and local schools are hosting ceremonies filled with gratitude for veterans' selflessness and service. Each event offers an opportunity for the community to come together to appreciate those who have served and sacrificed to safeguard our freedoms.

Cordell High School Student Council will host the Cordell Public Schools Veterans Day Assembly on Monday, November 11, at 10:00 a.m. in the Cordell School Auditorium. BPA, FCCLA, and FFA students have contributed significantly to the event, making it a collaborative effort from the student body. For the event, the Pride of Cordell Band will perform and play special tributes for each military branch. The keynote speaker, Mike Southerland, will share inspiring words, and the high school choir and the 5th and 6th-grade choir will perform patriotic songs. The 4th grade will also lend their voices in a special tribute. A reception will follow in the lobby for veterans and attendees.

Sentinel Public Schools will host its Veterans Day ceremony at 10:00 a.m. in the Sentinel School Auditorium. Kindergarten through 5th-grade students and the junior high and high school choirs will perform songs dedicated to honoring our veterans. The keynote speaker, Cory Schneberger, will share his message. This event offers a touching way for students of all ages to express their gratitude to local veterans.

In Canute, the Veterans Day event combines tribute and community. Canute Public Schools invites all veterans to a 'Come and Go Stew Lunch' from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the school library, courtesy of the Canute Student Council. Veterans are encouraged to call the school office at (580) 472-3782 to RSVP.

The VFW State Chaplain, Jason Burns, will present programs at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., sharing stories and insights that resonate with many.

The Burns Flat-Dill City Public Schools will host a Veterans Day Ceremony at 9:30 a.m. in the Don Lemke Gymnasium, organized by the Burns Flat Dill City Government Club. Keynote speaker David Makuch will address the audience and share his message. The event will feature band and choir performances, poetry readings, and a slideshow presentation. Attendees who wish to submit photos for the slideshow may contact John Foley at (405) 3610901. The Burns Flat First Baptist Church will hold a luncheon following the Veterans Day Ceremony for all veterans to attend.

Thank you to our Washita County schools for paying tribute to our veterans' bravery, selflessness, and sacrifice this Veterans Day. Whether you attend the events in Cordell, Sentinel, Canute, or Burns Flat, we encourage everyone to honor those who have courageously served our nation. Happy Veterans Day.
