Get ready to rattle your bones, Cordell! This Halloween, the ghosts and goblins of the town are coming out to play in one of the most hair-raising, candy-crunching, and giggle-inducing events of the year— Spook the Square! On Thursday, October 31st, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Cordell’s Downtown Square will transform into a haunted haven where tiny monsters, witches, superheroes, and probably a few wandering dinosaurs can let their spooky side shine.
From 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., local businesses and res- idents will be stationed around the square like candy command posts, handing out sweets and treats to satisfy every trick-or-treater’s deepest sugar-filled dreams.
Just Imagine the Downtown Square, adorned with festive orange jack-o’lanterns, pumpkins, and Halloween decor bursting with the delightful squeals of children trying their best to be “scary” while balancing candy buckets and bags bigger than their heads.
Have you got a tiny Frankenstein? A sassy little vampire or a pintsized princess? Whatever your costume choice, this is the night to unleash your kiddo’s inner spookster. Parents, don’t worry— no costume for you? Just dress up as an “exhausted parent” (we hear it’s trending this year), and you’ll fit right in!
But be warned, the kiddos will likely outshine you in the costume department. And that’s okay—let them have their moment of Halloween glory. Besides, you’re there for the candy tax. (Pro tip: Reese’s first, Smarties last.)
After you’ve filled your treat buckets and bags, exchanged “oohs” and “ahhs” over creative costumes, and witnessed at least one inflatable dinosaur tripping over its own legs, the night doesn’t end there. At 7:00 p.m., the historic Washita Theatre will host a spooky, festive Halloween special screening for the little ones. Think less ‘Nightmare on Elm Street’ and more ‘Scooby- Doo’—something just spooky enough to get the goosebumps going without needing the Mystery Machine to solve a candy crisis! It’s the perfect way to wind down a night full of frightful fun and FREE admission!
So, set those reminders. Cordell’s Spook the Square promises to be a monstrously good time. Just don’t forget—bring your candy bucket or bag, wear comfy shoes, and prepare for a sugar crash later!
You’ll need your energy to keep up with your little monsters and witches as they haunt the square and claim their candy treasures. Spook the square is ready to bring on the thrills, chills, and chocolate spills!
