The Cordell City Council has approved a water rate increase in response to rising costs from the Foss Reservoir Master Conservancy District (MCD).
In March 2024, Foss Reservoir MCD implemented a 38% rate hike, increasing the water rate from $4.02 to $5.56 per thousand gallons. This applies to Cordell’s daily allocation of 197,891 gallons, with additional charges for excess usage. Cordell’s annual assessment for 2024 will be $418,304.67, plus any overage.
The City was initially charged the 38% increase for March, April, and May. Foss Reservoir MCD later announced a 12-month partial credit of $70,174.20 to offset the rate hike, though this may be withdrawn or reduced if financial challenges arise.
The City Council has structured this increase as a passthrough charge, directly reflecting the Foss costs with no extra city fees. The “Foss Increase” will be listed separately on utility bills, ensuring transparency. Any future rate adjustments from Foss will also be clearly shown.
