Meek Jakob Moles: Cordell's New Baseball Coach Ready To Swing For The Fences!

Cordell Public Schools has a new name to add to their lineup: Jakob Moles, the enthusiastic new head coach for the Cordell Blue Devils baseball team. Coach Moles brings considerable experience, a hunger for success, and a love for the game that began when he was just a six-year-old boy and continued to grow as he played through high school. But who is Jakob Moles, and what can the Cordell community expect from him? We took some time to get to know the new coach and learn more, and it’s clear: he’s ready to knock it out of the park!

Jakob’s journey to Cordell began in Blair, Oklahoma, where he grew up playing baseball and dreaming of coaching. “I was fortunate to be a part of some great teams through junior high and high school,” he shared. “We won districts in the fall and spring from the time I was a sophomore until I graduated - apart from the fall season of my senior year where Binger-Oney beat us in the finals of districts.”

In eighth grade, Jakob realized coaching was in his blood, thanks to his coach, Jeremy McIntosh, who taught him the value of quality communication and the art of getting the best out of his players. “[Coach] McIntosh, now the softball coach in Shattuck, where he is from, was the reason I had such a passion for the profession. The way he was able to communicate and get the best out of us was truly incredible. He encouraged me to give coaching baseball a shot when I was on his team in school.”

Why Cordell? Why Now?

So, what brought Coach Moles to Cordell Public Schools? “Cordell has had a tradition of success that was really intriguing me,” he said. “The kids at this school always seem respectful, passionate, and always seem to have an interest in learning, and I believe these are things that I can thrive from and help turn the baseball program around alongside the players.”

After a two-year stint at Olustee-Eldorado, alongside Coach Eagle Fixico, who also made a significant impact on him and helped shape him into the coach he is today, where he learned patience and the importance of communication, Jakob was ready to take his experience and embrace a new challenge. “My philosophy is based on accountability from the top down.

Everyone on the team is held to the same standard and expectations, including myself and other coaches on the staff,” he explained. “If there is no accountability, there is no success. We all must hold each other to account. Accountability cannot just come from the coaches. On great teams who see the highest level of success, players hold each other to account as well.”

The 3 C’s: Coach Moles’ Game Plan

When asked about the most important qualities of a successful baseball team, Coach Moles didn’t hesitate. “I believe the most important qualities are the 3 C’s: Commitment to excellence, Confidence in yourself and your teammates, and Communication with each other.”

And how does he plan to motivate his players? “While there is always a time for a “win one for the Gipper” speech, player, to a certain extent, must be self-motivated to be great,” he expressed. “I have always believed in the saying, “You can lead the horse to the water, but you can’t make them drink.” There is certainly a level of motivation that can come from a coach, but self-motivation is key.”

Building a Winning Culture, One Pitch at a Time

Coach Moles is excited about the potential he sees in the Cordell baseball program. His short-term goals focus on building a solid foundation and fostering a sense of stability. But in the long term? “[I want us to be] perennial contenders in the area for district and regional titles and build a self-sustainable program each year. I believe this is possible, but it will take some faith [from] the players and many years of hard work. I believe the State Tournament will be the goal in the next couple of years,” he shared. “It comes down to the principles I have laid out. Accountability, communication, confidence, and commitment. These things will be vital in turning this program into something everyone in the community can be proud of, on and off the field.”

Coach Moles envisions a bright future for the Cordell baseball program, grounded in the existing talent of its athletes and his focus on fundamentals. He believes that success is imminent, not because of any drastic changes he plans to make, but because the team already has the potential to excel.

Under his leadership, Coach Moles aims to create an environment where players can develop as athletes and individuals, prioritizing fundamentals like error-free defense, executing strategic plays such as bunting to advance runners, and consistently throwing strikes. His approach emphasizes that a strong foundation in the basics will pave the way for the team’s future achievements.

Outside of baseball, Coach Moles is a devoted family man who cherishes every moment with his wife and their four young children. In addition to balancing family time and coaching, he is also stepping into the classroom to teach 8th-grade civics. He’s eager to meet all the new faces and embrace the challenges of guiding young minds, just as he does on the baseball field.

Looking ahead, Coach Moles is eager to get involved with the Cordell community. “I would like to be present at events for the kids, engage with the people within the community when possible, and always offer a helping hand to those who need it.” Coach Moles intends to host a few exciting events this year and next summer designed to boost fundraising for the baseball program and bring the community together.

As we wrapped up our interview, Coach Moles had a final message for the Cordell community: “I believe this program is about to shoot up, so please come out and support [us] this spring and next summer. We have a group of kids who will help us in the 20252026 spring season and beyond, who are 8th graders and below. We hope to make the baseball program something the community can hang its hat on and be proud of. We will win. It will not be a matter of “if” but “when”. Great things to come. Thank you!”

With Coach Moles at the helm, it’s clear that the Cordell Blue Devils baseball team is in for an exciting new chapter. Here’s to a season of growth, learning, and a few (or many) home runs! #ControlTheControllables #BlueDevilPride
