Jamie Hastie sees a need in the community, and has been strategizing for months about finding a way to fill that need. Many kids need a place to go between the end of the school day and the end of some parents’ work day. They might need a snack, homework help, or a bit of socialization, and her idea for After School is 2 Cool! was born.
Finding a location proved to be a challenge. Hastie is working with a tiny budget and wants to keep costs very low for families. For now, she has decided to begin the program at her home until she sees what kind of attendance numbers she can expect.
Hastie says she will provide an environment of Christian values. She has experience working with children with dyslexia, and would love to help with homework for those with that need. She plans to serve
AFTER SCHOOL , Page 4 snacks, play games, do crafts, study a short devotional, and send kids home with a snack for later.
The cost will be $10 per day, per child for the time slot of 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, with a $1 per day discount for each additional sibling. A one-week payment is required to hold a spot and that money will be applied to the account. Hastie stresses that this is not a daycare center and is not required to operate under DHS rules due to the numbers of hours involved.
Age limits are Kindergarten through 8th grade. Hastie is working on getting a transportation system to take attendees from school to the program, but that detail hasn’t been finalized yet.
Anyone interested in signing up for After School is 2 Cool! are asked to attend an open house/registration event at 118 Symcox in Cordell on Sunday, August 4th from 2 - 4 p.m.
Hastie is also looking for volunteers to help in different ways and donations of any kind will be gratefully accepted.
