After 34 years in education and the last 23 being with Western Technology Center, Penny Berry has declared that “it’s time to repurpose my time” and retire.
Penny began her tenure with WTC as the Tech Prep Coordinator where she worked with all WTC’s sending schools. Students participated in job shadowing experiences in the Health Care industry.
During her time in that role, she created the “Club Scrub” (Science Careers Reveal Unlimited Boundaries). This grew to be a very large program and gained statewide recognition. Several of those participating students have gone on to become doctors and dental hygienists. Several teachers and counselors even left the education field and pursued a healthcare profession.
Penny then moved into the Counselor position at WTC-Burns Flat campus before stepping into the Director of Instruction/Assistant Superintendent position in 2010.
Penny is known as the “WTC Cheerleader” as she is the first to encourage and cheer on the accomplishments of others and WTC programs!
In reflection of her time at WTC, Penny shared, “As I look back over my shoulder at the blessed opportunities students and customers have had because of WTC, I am so grateful to have played a part in “success stories” and be part of a history story that will impact the workforce in western Oklahoma. Hundreds of faces pass through my memory box, the Lord allowed me to encounter staff and students that have made a difference in my life, now and forever!”
