Washita County candidate filing complete for June election

Oklahoma State Election Board’s official candidate filing period ran from April 3 - 5, and several Washita County positions up for election drew opponents.

Current Washita County Clerk Kristen Dowell is being challenged by candidate Angie Strobel. Dowell has held the position for twelve years.

David Gray filed to run against current District 2 Commissioner Leo Goeringer.

Sue Fletcher and Rusty Bookout filed for the position of County Assessor. This office was left vacant by the resignation of Georgia Lawson.

Current Washita County Sheriff Roger Reeve is not seeking re-election, and Russell Stewart and Kevin Rozell will campaign for that position.

Filing unopposed was County Court Clerk Lynda Vermillion.

Since all filing cadidates are from the same party, (Republican) there will be no primary election necessary and Washita County voters will make the final decision as to the winners on June 18th, 2024.

May 24th, 2024 is the voter registration deadline for the June election, and June 3rd is the deadline for requesting an absentee ballot.

Early voting will take place from June 13th - 14th from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., and on June 15th from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the County Election Office.

On Election Day, June 18th, polls will be open at normal precinct locations from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.
