The time is now for area high school Juniors to enter CKenergy’s 2024 Washington D.C. Youth Tour contest.
Perhaps CKEC’s best-known and most anticipated youth program, Youth Tour is a week-long, all-expenses-paid educational trip to Washington, D.C. in June of each year.
CKEC annually sponsors four students—all juniors— from high schools within its service territory on Youth Tour. Students travel with the Oklahoma delegation (70+ students) to our nation’s capital where they tour historic sites and national landmarks, meet Oklahoma’s congressional delegation, and more.
Youth Tour has earned a reputation as “a trip of a lifetime” by former participants. Youth Tour will be June 14 through June 20, 2024.
Youth Tour is so much more than a sightseeing trip. Students have repeatedly shared that this experience has helped them grow into successful professionals.
Students also visit Capitol Hill, where they meet with Oklahoma’s congressional representatives and their staff. Some teens are so inspired by the experience that they later serve as interns on the hill; others have gone on to pursue careers in politics. Youth Tour inspires students to discover who they want to be.
Oklahoma co-ops have participated in Youth tour since 1963. Not only do they gain insight into the most important moments in U.S History, but they also meet with more than 1,500 student leaders from across the nation. It’s a great opportunity to make lasting connections.
To enter, ontestants will be required to write a professional letter to a local, state or federal elected official about an issue that’s important to them. For complete details visit www.CKenergy.coop. Deadline to apply is February 1, 2024.
The four winners will receive the all-expense paid trip to Washington D.C. and a $750 scholarship. The runners up will receive a $750 scholarship. If you know of an exceptional student who would be a great candidate for this program, please share this article with them.
