Washita County accidents claim two lives, leave others injured

Two separate accidents killed two people and injured four others in Washita County.

According to OHP Trooper reports, a single fatality collision occurred on November 10th at approximately 7:00 p.m. four miles south of Cordell on US 183.

Charles McDowell, 37, of Altus was driving a 2003 Chevy Impala traveling northbound when he crossed left of center and struck a 2008 Chevy Silverado head-on. McDowell was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by Cordell EMS.

The Silverado was being driven by Amy Lemons, 38, of Cordell. She was transported by Air Evac and taken to OU Medical Center where she was admitted in critical condition with multiple injuries.

Michael Martin, 40, of Cordell was a passenger in the Silverado. He was transported by Cordell EMS to Cordell Memorial Hospital, then transferred to OU Medical Center in serious condition with trunk and leg injuries.

Two juvenile male passengers in the Silverado were transported to local hospitals by Cordell EMS and later transported to OU Children’s Medical Center. They have since been released.

In a separate fatality accident, a pedestrian was struck and killed near Burns Flat. On November 7th at approximately 7:30 p.m. a 2015 GMC Sierra driven by Rhonda S. Ferrel, 57, of Oklahoma City was traveling on OK-44 just south of Burns Flat when it struck Jeffrey A. George, 44, of Kingston. George was pronounced dead at the scene by the Oklahoma Medical Examiners Office. Ferrel was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
