Two months into his term, Mayor Phil Kliewer has made it clear that he has a vision for Cordell. He hopes to see our historic town square once again filled with attractive landscaping, providing a welcoming hometown feel and perhaps an enticement for new businesses.
While plans to implement this vision may start with Council and Administration, the help of everyday folks is necessary to really make a difference. Taking pride in the appearance of property, eliminating litter, and volunteering with forthcoming beautification plans will allow everyone to take part.
Together with Cordell’s City Council and Interim City Manager Vicki Hagerman, Mayor Kliewer intends to listen to citizens’ concerns and vows to do what he can to make our town an even better place to live by understanding the wants and needs of Cordell’s residents.
One immediate improvement is the reopening of the Community Center for public use. Rental details and fees can be found by contacting the City Office.
Regular City Council meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month at the Community Center behind City Hall; however, the June meeting, which will be a public hearing over the proposed annual budget, will be held on June 12th at the Washita County Activity Center across from Cordell Elementary. As always, these meetings are open to the public and residents are encouraged to attend in order to get firsthand information rather than relying on rumors or hearsay. Citizens can also sign up for text alerts from City Hall. Go to https://cityofcordell.com/subscribe to sign up.
