Area weekend accidents claim two lives

Last Friday, December 2, a personal injury accident occurred at approximately 11:20 hours on OK-40 & E 1290 Rd, approximately .5 miles south of Sentinel in Washita County.

Twenty-year-old June E. Reese, driving a 2018 GMC Terrain, was transported by Burns Flat EMS to Clinton Regional Hospital and transferred to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, OK, where she was admitted in fair condition with trunk and leg injuries. The 2018 GMC Terrain was south bound on OK-40 when is departed the roadway to the east, struck a stop sign, utility pole support and a fence. The driver, wearing her seat belt, was in sleepy condition, ultimately causing the collision. The accident was investigated by Kelby Peoples #603 of the Washita detachment of Troop H. and was assisted by Dustin Fuller #692 of the Beckham/Roger Mills detachment of Troop H. Washita County Sheriff Office, Sentinel Police Department, Burns Flat EMS, and Air Evac were contacted, but Air Evac refused due to unsafe windy conditions.

Saturday, December 3, a fatality collision occurred at approximately 06:10 hours at the intersection of OK-54 and E 1130 Rd, 3 miles east of Corn, OK in Washita County. Korbin M. Newman of Weatherford, OK, 22 years of age, was driving a 2016 Jeep. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by Life Guard EMS and was transported by Ray and Martha’s Funeral Home. There were no other passengers or vehicles involved. The 2016 Jeep was eastbound on E 1130 Rd when it departed the roadway to the right, striking a fence. The vehicle then went airborne, impacted the ground and rolled an undetermined number of times, ejecting the driver before coming to a rest on its top. Seatbelt was not in use. Accident was investigated by Kelby Peoples #603 of the Washita County detachment of Troop H. and assisted by Life Guard EMS.

Sunday, December 4, a fatality collision occurred at approximately 2:58 hours on OK-152 at E 3rd Street, in Sayre, OK Beckham County. A 15-year-old juvenile female from Apache, OK was driving a 2001 GMC Yukon. She was transported by Sinor EMS to Great Plains Regional Medical Center in Elk City, OK where she was admitted in good condition with arm, trunk, and internal injuries. A 13-year-old passenger, a juvenile female, of Apache, OK was pronounced deceased on the scene with head injuries. She was transported by the Medical Examiner’s Office to their office in Oklahoma City, OK. The 2001 GMC Yukon was being pursued by the Cordell Police Department and the Sayre Police Department. The vehicle was traveling west bound on OK-152 at a high rate of speed while entering the city limits of Sayre. The vehicle lost control, departed the roadway to the right, and collided with a building. The 13-year-old passenger was pinned in the vehicle for approximately 30 minutes before being freed by Sayre Fire Department using the T-N-T Tool. Seatbelts were in use by both occupants. The accident and condition of the driver and vehicle is still under investigation. The accident was investigated by and assisted by Trooper Trent Cagle #380 of the Traffic Homicide Unit. Assisted by Trooper Brandon Bussey #690 of the Beckham County detachment of Troop H., Beckham County Sheriff’s Office, Washita County Sheriff’s Office, Sayre Police Department, Cordell Police Department, Apache Police Department, Sayre Fire Department, and Sinor EMS.
