The Washita County Election Board reminds voters that applications must be approved by the County Election Board Secretary in order to vote.
Registered voters who have moved to Washita County from a different county or state will need to complete a new Voter Registration Application in order to be eligible for elections in Washita County. If you have moved within the county and need to update your address, you may make changes online using the OK Voter Portal at oklahoma.gov/elections/ovp or complete a Voter Registration Application.
Voter Registration Applications can be downloaded from the State Election Board website at oklahoma.gov/elections. You may also complete a form at your County Election Board. Most post offices, tag agencies, and public libraries have applications available upon request.
Additionally, the deadline to request absentee ballots by mail is approaching. Applications must be received by the County Election Board no later than 5 p.m. Monday, August 8 th 2022.
Washita County Election Board Assistant Secretary, Ashton Hymer, says absentee voting is available to all voters and can be submitted several ways.
“In Oklahoma, no excuse is needed to vote by absentee ballot, and it’s easy to apply! Voters can submit their application online, in-person, by fax, mail, or even email.”
Voters can apply online using the OK Voter Portal at oklahoma.gov/elections/ ovp. Applications are also available at the County Election Board or can be downloaded at oklahoma.gov/elections.
Hymer reminds voters that only the applicant can submit his or her own absentee ballot application. It is against the law to submit an absentee ballot application for another person. Voters who submit their application in-person at the County Election Board will be asked to provide proof of identity.
Voters with questions about absentee voting should contact the County Election Board at 580-832-3658 or WashitaCounty@elections.ok.gov.
Sample ballots are now available for the August 23rd Election. Voters can download a sample ballot using the State Election Board’s OK Voter Portal at oklahoma.gov/elections/ovp or pick up a copy at the Washita County Election Board during normal business hours. Washita County Election Board Secretary, Ashton Hymer , reminds voters that sample ballots are specific to each person.
“If the OK Voter Portal indicates that you have no sample ballots available, it means you are not eligible to vote in an upcoming election. We recommend checking the OK Voter Portal to make sure you have an election before heading to the polls.” Hymer said sample ballots will also be posted outside every precinct polling place on Election Day, so voters can review them before casting their votes.
