The Oklahoma Foundation of Excellence has announced the recipients for the esteemed 2022 Academic All-State Awards. These 100 top public high school seniors, selected from 397 nominations statewide, hail from 75 schools in 67 Oklahoma school districts.
Among the list of recipients is senior Josh Mooney from Burns Flat-Dill City High School. Mooney, along with each of this year’s All-Staters will receive a $1,000 merit-based scholarship and a medallion.
The All-Staters will be recognized at the foundation’s 36th Annual Academic Awards Celebration on Saturday, May 21, at the Omni Oklahoma City Hotel.
David L. Boren, founder and chairman of the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence, describes the selection of the scholars as “Oklahoma’s most rigorous academic awards selection process.”
Academic All-Staters are selected based on academic achievement, extracurricular activities and community involvement, as well as letters of recommendation and an essay submitted by each nominee.
Mooney is Valedictorian of his class and on the Superintendents Honor Roll. Mooney is in the National Honor Society as well as Oklahoma Honor Society.
He is an accomplished athlete who participates in football, basketball, cross-country and golf. His extracurricular and community activities range from: Student Council (President), Class Office (President), FCA (Vice-President), Quiz Bowl (Captain), Government Club, FFA, Food Drive (organized by Student Council), Food Drives (organized by basketball), cook at the Veteran’s Day Luncheon, decorating the town park with FFA, Operation Christmas Child (organized by Church), back to school back pack and school supplies drive (organized by Church), Thanksgiving food baskets (organized by Church), Vacation Bible School, and back to school teachers’ luncheon (organized by Church).
The awards ceremony will be televised statewide May 28 and 29 by OETA, the Oklahoma Educational Television Authority.
