The Oklahoma Municipal League recently presented Corn Mayor Barbara Nurnberg with the ‘25 Years of Service ‘ award.
Nurnberg’s first meeting as a board member was February 1996 and her first meeting as mayor was November 2009.
She has served continually as a board member and then as mayor. Next month it will be 26 years and she’s probably served with about that many different members. When she started serving she was appointed to take Joel Gossen’s place, who himself had served for 22 years, with a lot of those as mayor also.
She’s always had vision and ideas, and her latest vision, a splash pad and park for the town, was a big undertaking, but she saw it through to completion with a grand opening being held in August, 2020.
She’s an active member of the local Calvary Baptist Church and also American Auxiliary. Those who work alongside her say “Mayor Nurnberg doesn’t serve from above, she serves in the trenches.”
