FACULTY SPOTLIGHT

Allison Russell

With having grown up in Cordell, what better way to enrich one’s teaching career than to teach the students of your hometown. Having been influenced by many amazing teachers, it is no surprise that Allison Russell, this week’s Cordell Blue Devil Faculty Spotlight, has bloomed into one of the best teachers at Cordell Elementary. Read more below about Mrs. Russel and her advice for her students.

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

My name is Allison Russell, I teach 4th grade Math and Science. This is my 5th year teaching 4th grade Math and Science. I graduated from Cordell High School in 2013, and from SWOSU with a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education in 2016/

What are your goals for the second half of the school year?

My goal for this second semester is to prepare my students for success in the future. Preparing them for the 5th grade and beyond. I want my students to be successful in and out of the classroom.

What has been your favorite moment from this year?

My favorite moment this year isn’t one memory, it’s an accumulation of good memories. These kids have made my 5th year of teaching so fun, between aha moments, pranks among students and teachers in the classrooms, and everything in between. This year hasn’t been a normal year by any means, but our students have adapted and taken it in stride!

What was it that made you want to be a teacher?

I have always known I wanted to be a teacher from an early age because of the wonderful teachers I had in school. I was born and raised in Cordell and work with some of my former teachers today!

What subject/grade do you teach? Why did you choose that specific one?

I teach 4th grade Math and Science. Math wasn’t always my favorite subject, I grew to love math during my college career. It didn’t come easy to me and I loved the challenge of working hard to be successful.

What motivates you to be the best teacher you can be for your students? What are your intentions when you walk into the classroom?

My motivation is my students. When I walk into the classroom every morning my intentions are to be a bright spot in their day. My hope is that they learn Math and Science along with important life lessons in my classroom everyday.

When you’re not teaching, how do you like to spend your time?

My favorite way to spend my time while I am out of the classroom is to spend it with my family, my husband, Reid Russell and our two beautiful daughters, Kreidence and Kortlyn. Our favorite family activity is checking the cattle!

Do you have any advice for your students?

My advice to my students is to continue striving to be the best version of themselves. Take every opportunity and make the most of it!
