There are many things to be thankful for this holiday season, and the Third Annual Thanksgiving Feast is one of them. What started as a small gesture to help others has transformed into a known local event that serves many. “Last year we served around 300 people between to-go boxes and those that came in,” said Amy Riggs, event organizer. Tonya Venable from Shorty’s and Riggs have worked tirelessly to organize an event that benefits the community and brings people together.
The Thanksgiving Feast is made possible by the donations from local businesses and community members. To-go boxes will also be made available to those businesses and individuals working Thanksgiving Day. “I do have a list of businesses that will be operating on Thanksgiving, but if I missed anyone please contact me,” said Riggs. For to-go box delivery in Cordell, please notify Riggs by Nov. 23rd.
With much emotion in her voice, Riggs explained the importance of organizing the feast and what it means to her. “I have lost a lot of family and my hopes are that this will bring people together to enjoy a good meal and good company. No one should be alone or hungry on Thanksgiving.” She said, “I have been so blessed in my life that I want to make sure that everyone else is blessed, too.”
The feast will commence Nov. 25th at 2:00 p.m. at the 4th and College Church of Christ in Cordell. Volunteers to help with the event are welcome.
