Cordell Public Schools Board of Education seeks public input for Superintendent search

Following Superintendent Brad Overton’s announcement that he will retire at the end of the school year, Cordell Board of Education members have begun the search for the district’s next superintendent. School board members recently approved a partnership with the Oklahoma State School Boards Association to assist with the search.

Parents, staff, students and community members are encouraged to participate in a brief, online survey which will be located on the district’s website – cordell.k12.ok.us, beginning Nov. 15. You may also use a smartphone to scan the QR code located at the bottom of this article. Survey results will help guide Cordell’s school board members in their process to search for their next district leader. Responses will be accepted through Dec. 10.

“Input from our community is very important to the search process,” Cordell Board President Mike Reimer said. “As school board members, one of the most important responsibilities we have is selecting the leader of our district. We are seeking a superintendent who will help the district set meaningful goals, will be an active listener and effective communicator and is dedicated to the district and community.”

Cordell is currently accepting applications until Dec. 29. Overton, Cordell’s current superintendent, will continue to serve the district until the end of the school year.

OSSBA has partnered with several school districts of all sizes throughout Oklahoma to perform superintendent searches. The non-profit organization has helped school districts such as Deer Creek, Edmond, Frontier, Woodland and Glenpool to find their next district leader. OSSBA assists the district with advertising openings, recruiting potential candidates, furnishing an online application management system, and providing guidance and support throughout the search process.
