A report filed by the Washita County District Court on Monday, September 27 stated that a Clinton woman had been charged with abuse against a Bessie man.
Melissa Sue Johnson of Clinton, who also goes by Melissa Sue Sanders, has been charged with one felony count of abuse by caretaker against Bessie resident Bobby Meier.
The report states that between May 1, 2019, and August 30, 2020, Johnson used the debit card of Meier, an incapacitated person, for a purpose other than what was authorized by Meier.
Johnson is said to have spent approximately $28,000 of Meier’s funds. The report states that she used this money for her personal use to pay for her utilities, vehicle repairs, grocery bills, Amazon orders, and movies.
Deputy for Washita County Sheriff’s Department Russel Stewart stated in the report that on May 4, 2021, that adult protective services specialist Missinda Johnston had received a referral of a case involving non-caretaker maltreatment: non-caretaker exploitation.
“Mr. Meier resides at a private residence in Bessie Oklahoma,” Stewart stated in the report. “Mr. Meier does have medical health issues and requires assistance.”
Stewart also stated that Johnson, 34, admitted to financial exploitation of Meier, 67, by using his debit card and spending $29,000.
Washita County Sheriff’s Department has issued a warrant for the arrest of Johnson. She had not been arrested yet as of press time.
A felony count of abuse by a caretaker is a crime punishable by imprisonment for up to ten years or by a fine not exceeding $10,000.
