With a long history working in the Cordell abstract office, Darla Ringo has now been appointed to the Oklahoma Abstractors Board.
The Oklahoma Abstractors Board oversees all abstract companies in the state. These companies help provide a “full and complete record of all matters filed on public record that affect ownership rights to a particular piece of real property,” according to the Oklahoma Abstractors Board website.
The board ensures that abstract companies abide by state laws and keep up with new laws enacted by the state.
“I feel really great about being appointed to this position,” Ringo, who has been abstracting for a total of 42 years, said.
Ringo said she applied for the board position after she had several people in her industry asking her to apply.
“Someone has to step up and be on state boards and I decided it was my turn if I got appointed,” she said.
She will begin her four-year term in July and she will oversee 18 counties in her district.
“Being on the board will bring all new kinds of responsibilities like making sure my district knows they can call or email me with any problem they have, going to meetings once a month at Oklahoma City, [and] understanding new laws that come out about the abstracting industry,” Ringo said.
Ringo was first introduced to abstracting from a young age as her mother worked at the Beckham County Abstract office in Sayre.
Ringo began working at the Sayre office at the age of 15 for a few years before moving over to the Cordell office where she has worked for 39 years.
“It was just natural for me to start working there,” Ringo said. “I really enjoy my work and I strive to do the best job I can daily.”
One of Ringo’s notable achievements during her time abstracting was being given the Distinguished Service Award, an award presented to her by the Oklahoma Land Title Association for her 30-plus years of service.
