Elk City Route 66 Festival and Block Party promises family fun

The Elk City Chamber of Commerce announces the Route 66 Festival and Block Party Elk City...these activities start on Friday, June 11 with Block Party Elk City and Saturday, June 12, with the Route 66 Festival both will be held in downtown Elk City. There will be plenty of activities for the entire family starting with Block Party 6-9 pm located behind First National Bank/ Chamber building with live music from The Tyler Wilhelm Band and The Tone Junkies, participating downtown merchants will be open until 8pm Friday night, kids activities, inflatables, car cruise 8-10 pm starting at the National Route 66 Museum at 7:30 pm for a Photo Op to kick off to the Route 66 Festival… Cars will be cruising down Third Street and down Main Street to Sixth Street. Everyone needs to get your lawn chairs and come watch the classic and custom cars. You do not have to register for the Cruise on Friday night it is free and anyone can join in. Food Vendors on East Broadway for Block Party will be… Abby’s Authentic Mexican Food, Brown’s Grill, Santiago’s Tacos and Southern Touch Hand Shaken Lemonade & Cotton Candy. Route 66 Festival will begin on Saturday 7:00 am with the Route 66 Pup Run 5k and Fun Run benefit for the Elk City Animal Shelter, starting at the Route 66 Museum and being sponsored by CrossFit Velox. Registration starts at 6:30 am and you can also register at Block Party Elk City 6-9 pm along with getting information for the Cornhole Tournament being held at the intersection of Broadway and Jefferson during Route 66 Festival and hosted by the First Assembly of God Church. Route 66 Festival continues downtown 9:00 am to 5:00 pm with lots of shopping opportunities…be sure and look for the door posters at the participating businesses...they will be rolling out the savings for this once a year sale and giving away a limited amount of Ackley Park Passes to be used at the Centennial Carousel, Miniature Train and Miniature Golf along with the Route 66 Museum. The Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show will also be Saturday, 9:00 am to 3:30 pm downtown Elk City and you can register on Saturday morning from 8:00 to 9:00 am at Main Street Coffee & Cafe, 101 North Main or pick up an entry form at the Chamber office, 609 South Main. If you have pre-registered please pick up your number and goodie bag between 8:00 – 9:00 am at Main Street Coffee & Cafe also. The Entry Fee is $35.00 and additional entries $20.00 each for pre-registration and $35 per entry with $20 additional entries the morning of. There will be prizes for first and second place in each class determined by a panel of judges and a People’s Choice prize of $25 Chamber Dollars for the cars, trucks and motorcycles. Pre-register and get a free Route 66 Festival t-shirt, 1 Route 66 Museum pass and coupons for great shopping and dining. There will be a Poker Walk for the Car, Truck and Motorcycle show participants with a prize of $25 Chamber Dollars for the best and worst hand. Prizes will be awarded at 3:45 pm. On Saturday be sure and visit the information table at Main Street Coffee & Cafe to get your People’s Choice voting ballet and help your favorite win a prize. Ponce Productions will be the DJ/Emcee for the day starting at 10:00 am until 4:30 pm and they will keep everyone entertained. On East Broadway there will be the following food vendors…Brown’s Grill, Santiago’s Tacos and Southern Touch Hand Shaken Lemonade & Cotton Candy and Sno Way Shaved Ice.
