The Washita County Farm Bureau met April 27, 2021 at 6 pm in the Washita County Farm Bureau Office. The meeting started with a meal and a prayer led by Jimmy Piercey.
The women moved to the front office and Mary Peck opened the meeting. Charlene Thornbrough led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance to the US and Oklahoma flags.
Lowayne Piercey gave a devotion, Kindness, and gave the minutes for the last meeting. Charlene made a nomination that Makenzie Harper be a new member of the Washita County Woman’s Committee, and all members agreed. We will be looking forward to her help.
Lowayne gave a report on the Burns Flat Dill City 4-H. They collected and filled 60 backpacks for persons with Cancer. The women and children of the New Beginnings Church in Cordell helped with funding. 4-H members and sponsors delivered 25 backpacks to the Weatherford Cancer Center and 15 to the Clinton Cancer Center, and as new opportunities occur, they will deliver more. They are also doing projects with crock pots and photography.
Discussion was held on the Washita County Fair. The Farm Bureau hope to have the Barnyard Olympics, Petting Zoo, and AG Skill-A-Thon this year. We are hoping things will open up to having opportunities for our young people.
At any rate all these are in the planning as of this meeting. The Junior Livestock Show held in February was discussed. The FB Women help sponsor the Photo and Poster contests, and there were 49 posters and 25 photography projects. The FB also helped sponsor some money to the animal entries.
Discussion was started on this year’s Women’s Day. We started with some planning of workshops, projects topics, and basic ideas. This is a joint effort with Custer and Kiowa, and Mary will be contacting each to plan a date and ideas.
Mary handed out an outline of the 2021 Book of Works. The committee went over projects we have been able to complete with the shutdown of public meetings, and planned some projects for the year.
New ideas were discussed for involving more FB Women. State FB Fall Women’s Conference is being planned for August 27 and 28, 2021.
Women in Ag and Small Business are planning a meeting August 5 and 6, 2021, and some members plan to attend. It will be held in OKC.
A Farm Bureau Safety Drivers Class is in the planning and we will be letting people know in the near future. The FB Annual Meeting is being planned for September 12, 2021.
