On Saturday, April 24th the Cordell Fire Department held a fundraiser by selling food in an effort to raise money for new equipment.
“I thought it went really well,” Firefighter Jason Dudgeon said. “We had beautiful weather, and I think we served close to 140 people.”
During this event, the fire department served pulled pork sandwiches, potato salad, beans, salad, and a dessert for $10.
Overall, the fire department was able to raise around $900 that will be used to upgrade equipment and gear.
“It just kind of helps offset some of the costs with all the expenses that we have in our department,” Dudgeon said. “It helps from time to time on stuff that we’ve come up with that we need. Things like extra little stuff on gear from time to time, and kind of grabbing stuff for trucks or adding to stuff.”
This event also continues the fire department’s efforts of getting out into the community and becoming more involved with its residents.
“Over the last two or three years, we’ve really tried to step it up and be a lot more active out in the community,” Dudgeon said.
According to firefighter Lincoln Hunter, the event turnout was more than expected and plans to put on a similar event on Cruise Night next month are in talks.
“Lots of people that showed up asked if we were going to do it again, and we were saying, ‘Well, you know, it’s kind of up to y’all,’” Hunter said. “They said it was really good, and that they would love for us to do it again. So actually, I think we’re going to.”
Other ongoing fundraisers include the department’s Green Mountain Grill raffle in which residents pay $20 for a ticket, and the drawing is to be held during the May Cruise Night event. To purchase tickets for the raffle you can contact the Cordell Fire Department.
“The support from the community for the fire department has been huge and great. Every time we have some kind of a fund raiser, the community has stepped up and just been great to help us out with things,” Dudgeon said. “We really want to thank our community for supporting us every time we come out to come do stuff.”
