Dill Work and Play HCE group holds April meeting

The Dill Work and Play OHCE met April 13, at 1:30, in the Dill City Community Center. Jane Shull called the meeting to order, with Emma Bingham leading the group saying the Pledge to the Flag of the United States of America.

Anna Prickett led the group in the song My Faith looks Up to Thee. Emma led the devotion, Faith using Hebrews 11:1. Emma called roll with members answering with “Do you eat when you are stressed or bored?”

Emma read the minutes from the March meeting and they were approved.

Anna gave the treasure report and took up money for club projects. The Dill Work and Play will donate one Crock Pot to the Burns Flat Dill City SR 4-H. Each 4-H member will receive one Crock Pot to learn how to use and make a meal for their family and a meal for someone in the community. Then they will get to keep the Crock Pot to use themselves.

Jane went over the county newsletter. She gave 3 ways to get rid of old medicine: 1 take to recycle program, 2 recycle. at your pharmacy, 3 take names off bottles and put in trash. Do not put pill in your stool, as medicine may get in your ground water. Also, how to read dates on saving food, use before, look and taste best but can be used after the date: Used by, should be used by that date: Sell by should be sold by the date but good days after-. Jane showed the members the shirts we bought and we will have Dill Work and Play OHCE and Washita County on them.

Lowayne Piercey gave a 4-H report. The Burns Flat Dill SR 4-H packed up 60 back packs for cancer patient at Clinton and Weatherford. They will deliver the packs in the next couple of weeks. They were very nice gifts. They will do more when they have funds and names of people with cancer. The 4-H Speech contest will be held April 30th at Canute. Lowayne gave a hint: If you wrap lettuce, celery, and other vegetables in aluminum foil before you put in refrigerator it will keep much longer.

Lowayne gave the lesson Mindful Eating with hints on how to eat by thinking of good habits and useful ideas. She gave Mindful eating cards with eating tips, a test on hunger which was a Self Assessment of your eating, a fullness scale, and a chart to think about your hunger level when you start eating.

Lowayne passed volunteer hours chart to each member. They are to keep volunteer hours and pass to Kristy Spalding each month or at end of year.

Lowayne Piercey served refreshments to Jane Shull, Darlene Moore, Emma Bingham, Vickie Werner, Anna Prickett, and Louan Alford. Lowayne gave a door prize won by Louan. Jane showed a Cultural Art: a neckless and a ring with god of music engraved. She got them on a trip to Europe. Vickie showed a quilt she got at an art show and cookbook from Dill City from the early 60’s.

Jane led the Lord’s Prayer and the club was dismissed.
