Beacon names new General Manager

Heather Flores has been named the new General Manager of the Cordell Beacon.

"We were so fortunate that Heather came to the Beacon with extensive business management experience," said Brett Wesner, President of Cordell Beacon Co., Inc. "She had not previously worked in a newspaper setting, but she quickly learned every aspect of the operation. She has a deep affection for Cordell, and I know she will represent the Beacon, and Washita County, with pride and commitment. We are lucky to have her."

Flores has spent the past two-plus years as Office Manager at the Beacon. She looks forward to the challenge of running the Beacon.

“The Cordell Beacon has a long standard of outstanding journalism and commitment to the community,” Flores said. “I want to continue that standard. We have built a wonderful team at the Beacon, and I look forward to what the coming months and years will bring.”

Joining Flores will be new reporter Hector Lucas, who worked for Wesner’s Watonga Republican and new advertising consultant Charla Ingram. Part-time sportswriter Flora Walters will continue her duties.

Flores faces a couple of big challenges in her new role, including growing print and digital advertising.

“This will be an exciting challenge,” Flores said. “There is so much we can do for our community through meeting our advertisers’ needs. Charla and I look forward to expanding the reach of our customers.”

Flores has lived in Cordell for 4 years. Before working at the Beacon, she worked at IHeart Radio in San Antonio and Farmers COOP Exchange in Cordell. She has a son, Saxon, a second-grader at Cordell Elementary School, and two adult daughters, Faith and Crystal.

Flores takes over from Thomas R. Martinez, who resigned to lead the editorial team at the new nonprofit, nonpartisan Fort Worth Report.
