Burns Flat man pinned under car for 20 minutes after collision

A Burns Flat man was injured last week in a two-vehicle traffic collision south and east of Canute in Washita County, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Matthew Hoffman identified the injured man as Jy Brown, 43. He was transported to Canute by Elk City EMS to meet Medi-Flight and Medi-Flight transported him to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Hoffman said.

The trooper reported Brown was admitted in stable condition with trunk internal injuries.

Hoffman said the collision occurred just before 5:30 p.m. on March 3 at the intersection of East County Road 1120 and North County Road 2110, three miles south and two miles east of Canute.

The trooper stated Brown was driving a 2005 Chevy pickup and the other vehicle involved in the wreck was a 2015 Freight truck driven by Wesley Denny, 39, of Del City who was not injured.

Hoffman reported the freight truck was traveling southbound on North County Road 2110 and the pickup was headed eastbound on East County Road 1120. He said the freight truck failed to yield to the pickup at the intersection, striking the pickup in the driver’s side.

Brown was pinned for 20 minutes before he was extricated by the Elk City Fire Department, the trooper stated.

According to the report, condition of both drivers at the time of the collision was apparently normal. Both vehicles were equipped with seat belts and in use by both drivers, the trooper said.

Hoffman listed cause of the collision as failure to yield.

Hoffman, of the Beckham County detachment of the OHP, was assisted by the Washita County Sheriff’s Department and Elk City Fire and EMS, the report states.
