Washita County reports third COVID-19 death

The Oklahoma State Department of Health reports that Washita County has experienced its third death attributed to COVID-19 and positive cases have climbed some through the past week.

The OSDH on Dec. 9 reported the most recent death, a female in the 65 and older age group.

The total number testing positive in the county is now 585. It was 517 a week ago, an increase of 68 over last week. Two weeks ago the number 437 was and three weeks ago it stood at 334.

Of the 585 cases, 478 have recovered.

Cordell has reported 178 positive cases, the most in the county. Of those, 152 have recovered. Last week there were 161 positive cases. Of those, 132 had recovered.

Burns Flat, which had 60 a week ago, now has 72, the third highest number in the county. Of those, 57 have recovered, the OSDH said.

Burns Flat also has one of the reported deaths.

Canute has 87, up from the 80 last week and has the second highest number in the county. Sentinel has 65. Of the 87 in Canute, 71 have recovered and 51 have recovered in Sentinel.

Other communities in Washita County reporting positive cases and the number recovered include: Dill City 26 and 20; Rocky 24 and 22.

Statewide as of Monday, 239,767 have tested positive, there have been 2,072 deaths and 202,532 who have recovered. Active cases stand at 35,163.

Last week there were 218,389 testing positive, there had been 1,911 deaths and 184,736 had recovered. There were 31,742 active cases a week ago.

Monday, the OSDH reported 2,099 new positive cases confirmed and 8 additional deaths. The OSDH reports more than 2.1 million have tested negative.
