Free meals and supplies equal big support for Blue Devils

Cordell Public Schools is taking meaningful steps to support local families once again this school year. In an announcement made last week, Cordell Elementary shared that all students in grades Pre-K through 6th grade will receive free school supplies for the 2025-2026 academic year. The generous move aims to alleviate the financial strain on families as they prepare for the back-to-school season.

A special thank you goes out to the Cordell administration and Board of Education members for making this possible and for continuing to prioritize the needs of students.

But that’s not all, the district also announced that free breakfast and lunch will be provided to all students in grades Pre-K through 12th this school year.

The first day of school is Thursday, August 7th, and thanks to these efforts, students and parents alike can focus more on learning and less on school-related expenses.

To help families prepare for the year, the Washita County Back to School Bash will take place on Tuesday, August 5th, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Washita County Activity Center, hosted by Cordell Memorial Hospital. The event will feature car seat checks, health education, snacks, women’s health resources, vaccines, WIC services, health screenings, hygiene items, and even a hot dog cookout. Plus, Surf Bar will be on site from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

With free supplies, free meals, and a community that shows up for its students, Cordell is making sure every child starts the year with the tools they need to succeed.
