Washita County Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee

The Washita County Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee and Washita County Board held a meeting May 6, 2025 in the Farm Bureau Conference room. The meeting started with a meal prepared by Made From Scratch in Cordell, and an opening prayer.

Jordan Cook called the women’s meeting at order at 6:30. Lowayne Piercey gave a devotional using Psalms 62:5-7. Mary Peck led the Flag Salute to the Flag of the US and OK. Lowayne read the minutes from the last meeting.

Reports were given: Eight Washita County members attended the Annual OKFB State meeting in OKC this year. Washita County took a silent auction item. Jimmy and Lowayne Piercey served on the State Resolutions Committee this session.

The JR Livestock show February 15 thru 17 and Premium Show was the 24. Discussion was held and information about the Skill-A-Thon, future plans were made and 47, 4-H and FFA members participated this year. 123 Posters were entered in the Poster Contest and 44 photos in the Photo Contest. The report was given on State Farm City Festival in OKC and cakes were taken. Bread Day was reported and bread was taken to the County Commissioners meeting in appreciation for their work. Six members from Washita County attended the Leadership meeting in Hobart in March. Jordan Cook attended 2 meetings in Washington DC both in March, Farm Credit and Women in Agriculture. Winners of the Farm Bureau Scholarship this year were Kylie Fuller from Cordell and Ellie Marshall and Bailey Beggs both from Burns Flat/Dill City.

Two attended (Emma Bingham and Lowayne Piercey) the Farm Bureau State Leadership Committee conference April 25-26 in Lawton. On the 25th the group took a tour to Quarts Mountain and the area. The 26th brought educational classes, introduction new women programs, wrote letters to Congress members, packed watermelon seeds for Ag in the Classroom, received instructions for new Ag in the Classroom project, gave and bought items for the silent auction, benefiting Foundation for Agriculture, retirement celebration for Marcia Irvin, State Leader for the Women’s Committee, and great food. The group also were caught in a storm at the hotel with water running down the halls and no electricity. It was rather an exciting day but also educational. The Committee voted to join the new Ag in the classroom program and will send $100 for project items. It is called Passing the Ag Story Program. We received the Lamb as our mascot. The Board approved the action.

Report was given on the Meat Judging of Washita County. The teams went to Stillwater and did very well in the contest. They have spent time in workshops and in practice. We are very proud of the team and their coach Erin and Kieth Schneberger. National AG week was celebrated in March. Members donated blood. Members helped with and judged the FFA Speech Contest. Members with the Care and Share served 700 snow cones at the end of school.
