In April 1st’s General Election, Dale Selman took the seat for Cordell Board of Education Office No. 5 with a 39-vote margin over candidate Randi Hunter. Both candidates expressed appreciation to the voters and showed support for the Cordell school system as a whole.
Selman stated “Thank you to Randi Hunter for a close race, and her willingness to serve Cordell Public Schools! I want to thank everyone who supported me throughout my campaign, and each of you that gave me your vote. I appreciate your support and look forward to working with the Cordell School Board. I ran on an open-door policy. Please reach out if I can help. Thank you!!”
Hunter said “I want to take a moment to sincerely thank everyone who supported me during this school board election. While the outcome wasn’t what I had hoped for personally, I am truly grateful for the encouragement, conversations, and votes from so many of you. It means the world to know that you believed in my vision for our schools and our students. I also want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Dale Selman. The school is in great hands, and I have no doubt that he will serve our schools and our community well. Our shared goal has always been to see Cordell’s students thrive, and I am genuinely happy for him and for all of you. This election has only strengthened my love for our town and my commitment to its future. I will continue to support our schools, our students, and our educators in any way I can. Thank you again for your trust, your votes, and your belief in making Cordell schools the best it can be.”
James Newman, Jr. won the office of City of Cordell Ward 3 Councilmember over Darryl Anthony, which was an unexpired term vacated by Buddy Holman. Both candidates took to social media to express appreciation for all who voted in the election and to offer kind words about their opponent.
