Washita County NSDAR Chapter holds February meeting

The regular meeting of the Washita NSDAR chapter met on February 10, 2025 at the Café Clinton with the Regent Kay Hagerman , assisted by the Chaplain Robetha Farris opened the meeting with the DAR ritual. The group participated in The Pledge of Allegiance , The American’s Creed , singing American the Beautiful , The Preamble to the Constitution and the Oklahoma Flag Salute.

The President’s Message was given by by Ellena Womack. Looking into area of our missions the month of February presents us with many opportunities to acknowledge . She began with taking time to commemorate George Washington’s birthday, to acknowledge his leadership his military genius and his leadership in the democracy in America; the decision of the Supreme Court in 1922 in confirming the 19th amendment’s constitutionality, securing women’s right to vote.

Ellena Womack gave a story from the National Defender that had been written by Melissa Shaw Bloch, titled The Box: Greater Love Hath No Man that featured her uncle, 2nd Lt. William Russell Bailey, and his service in WWII as a Navigator with the United States Army Air Corps. The program was given by Judy Tracy on 1910 One Room School Lessons. The Daughters participated in this as students in a 1910 classroom with the schoolmarm, Miss Tracy, leading them in lessons on penmanship, orthography, and history.

Committee Reports: Commemorative Events-Kathryn Harrison read a Lafayette Minute to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Lafayette’s Farewell Tour 1824-1825. American Indians-Virginia Reid told of Maria Tallchief, an Osage Indian and the first Native American to hold the rank of a Major Prima Ballerina.

With the reading of the Daughters Pledge, the meeting closed.
