Dill Work and Play

The Dill Work and Play met for regular meeting on October 15, 2024 at 1:13 p.m., in the Dill City Community Center. Jane Shull opened the meeting with a welcome and a good to see everyone. Lowayne Piercey led the group saying the Pledge to the Flag of the USA. Anna Prickett led the song Deep River.

Emma Bingham gave the Thought of the Day, “What Will Your Reward,” using Matthew 6:1-4. Emma called roll using, “Name something you keep in your car for an emergency.” There were five members and two guests that answered the question. Emma then read the minutes from Sept. and they were approved. Anna gave the treasurer’s report and collected money for Club projects. Anna made a motion to check at the BFDC school to see if there was a child we could give a Christmas present or a family Christmas basket to for Christmas. Lowayne volunteered to check at school before the next meeting.

We also voted to give boxes the Samaritan Purse Boxes again this year and have a goal of at least one box each member and regular guest. Jane reminded everyone we will have two sewing days November 11-12 for foster home children pillows. Everyone is also free to bring gifts for foster children of Washita County. Jane told of an upcoming tea party coming soon for all OHCE Clubs and guest. It will be held in Cordell and is to be announced. Our next meeting will be Nov. 12 at the sewing project.

Lowayne also gave a 4-H report: The Bean Supper and Carnival will be held on October 22 and members from the Dill Work and Play OHCE bought tickets.

The 4-H members placed new items in the Blessing Box and plan to put new items as needed and possible. The BFDC SR 4-H elected new officers for the 2024-25 year and planned new projects for the year.

The care and share group gave food out at the Ronald McDonald House three times and can tabs for helping with the people there. They plan a meal for about 40 in Oct.

Wilma Gathright gave a parliamentarian point, “Somehow I think we will never learn the don’t speak when others are speaking, we are all having such fun.” Wilma also showed everyone a crocheted tea towel which we used for cultural arts and they are just beautiful. Wilma also showed a knitted vest which she made this past year. Sue Clayton showed a True Grit shirt from Ridgeway, CO where the movie True Grit was filmed, and where she went to visit.

Jane called to our attention dues that are due in Oct., $12.50. New officers were elected. The 23-24 officers agreed to serve for the 24-25 year, except Vickie Werner the Vice President, who is having trouble making the over 100 track each month. Wilma agreed to become the next VP. President: Jane, VP: Wilma, Secretary: Emma, Treasurer: Anna, Reporter: Lowayne.

Anna gave the lesson emergency preparedness. It was a very good lesson and we all agreed to try to renew our safety practices in the home and the car. All members joined in on giving ideas and facts. Door prizes were given by Anna and won by Emma. Sue informed everyone the Methodist Church in Elk City will have a Bazaar Oct. 23, fun, good food, and gift selection.
