NSDAR

Regent Kay Hagerman called the Washita Chapter NSDAR to order on September 9 2025 with the chaplain Robetha Farris assisting. The group participated in the Pledge of Allegiance, The American’s Creed, A Patriotic Song, The Preamble to the Constitution and the Oklahoma Flag Salute.

Guests were introduced: Oklahoma State Regent Grace Edgeworth, Frontier District Director Vanassa Steward and Dr. Heather Katz . Nancy Lsle, Honorary State Regent was also acknowledged.

Doris Minor gave the President General’s Message. She encouraged the Daughters to be active in the acknowledgement of Constitution Week with displays and resources available to public, to reach out and participate in the scholarships that are available to students. She also encouraged the participation in the annual work day on October 11.

The National Defense report given by Ellena Womack . On September 9,, 1776 the new name that was adopted by the Second Continental Congress for the “United Colonies” was United States of America. September 17, 1787 , the last day of the Constitutional Convention, the final draft of the United States Constitution was signed by 39 of the 55 delegates, after long months of debate and revision. “The framing of the preamble with the immortal words of “WE the People”, the sources of government’s power is proclaimed.” {taken from the National Defender) Dr. Heather Katz, Associate Professor of Political Science at SWOSU presented the program—“The Making of the Constitution”.

“The Oklahoma Women’s Veteran’s Organization” is one of the State Regent’s projects and was briefed by the State Regent.

Committee Reports: American Indian given by Virginia Reid on the importance of the Squash Blossom and its place in Navajo History and Culture.

Americanism-Regent Hagerman reported that she and several daughters had attended the Citizenship Ceremony in Oklahoma City of 50 new citizens from 23 countries . Commemorative Events given by Doris Minor spoke on the Lafayette Farewell Tour of August 15,1824-September 9, 1825. Lafayette was the last surviving General of the American Revolution and his scheduled three-month tour lasted thirteen months… Historic Preservation by Marilyn Wilson and the proposed dedication of the Custer City Cemetery this fall. Women’s Issues, Robetha Farris reported that September is Health, Career, and Family focus month.. Project Records stated that both Doris and Lu had spent many hours indexing over the summer on records. Lu is now on the National Patriots Records Project.

The meeting was closed with the Daughters Pledge.
