Joyce Ann Schones, 72, of Elk City, Oklahoma was born on February 6, 1950 in Elk City, Oklahoma. She is the daughter of Victor Lee and Evelyn Amelda (Merz) Dobyns. She went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 26, 2022 at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in Elk City, Oklahoma surrounded by her family.
Joyce attended Holy Family and Canute schools. She married her best friend and sweetheart, Terry Don Schones on July 27, 1967 at the Court House in Washita County, Cordell, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on October 16, 2016. Joyce and her family moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma for twenty years and they returned home in 1989, where they opened Terry’s
Furniture Showroom in Elk City, Oklahoma.
Joyce loved spending time outdoors fishing and playing golf. She enjoying watching OU football and participating in fantasy football and going to casinos. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren and friends.
She was a member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church and the Elk City Golf and Country Club in Elk City, Oklahoma. Joyce will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Prayer Vigil will be held 6:30 p.m., Friday, December 30, 2022 at Saint Matthew’s Catholic Church, Elk City, Oklahoma. Father Danny Grover will officiate. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 31, 2022 at Saint Matthew’s Catholic Church, Elk City, Oklahoma. Father Danny Grover will officiate. Interment will be at Saint Matthew’s Cemetery, Elk City, Oklahoma. Services have been entrusted to the care of Richard and Tammy Dugger and the staff of Martin-Dugger Funeral Home in Elk City, Oklahoma.
Cherishing her memory is one son, Ryan Schones and his wife, Branda of Elk City, Oklahoma; one daughter, Tracey Dickinson of El Reno, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Madison Scheideger and husband, Zack, Mason Dickinson, Tori Houston and husband, Lee and Tate Schones; three great-grandchildren, Harlee Posey, Maddox Scheideger, Nora Kate Houston; one brother, Victor Lynn Dobyns of Canute, Oklahoma; one sister Sandra Acton and husband, Eric of Edmond, Oklahoma; and her fur babies, Zoie, Tucker and Molly; and numerous other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Terry Don Schones; and her parents, Victor Lee and Evelyn Amelda (Merz) Dobyns.
