Nightengale seeking re-election as Washita County Treasurer

Sherry Nightengale, Washita County Treasurer, has announced she will seek re-election when the filing period opens in April. Nightengale has worked in the Treasurer’s Office since 2001 and was appointed by the Board of County Commissioners to serve as Treasurer beginning on August 1, 2016.

As the County Treasurer, Nightengale is the county’s chief financial officer and oversees the administration of all county funds, including the apportionment of revenue to local schools and municipalities. In addition to the county-wide audits, the treasurer’s office is audited annually to determine whether bank reconciliations are properly performed, deposits and invested funds are secured by pledged collateral, and records are reconciled to the general ledger. Throughout Nightengale’s tenure as the Treasurer, there have not been any audit findings in these annual audits. “As the office responsible for the administration of county funds, I believe it is very important to understand governmental financial procedures and to execute those procedures according to the law. Protecting the taxpayers’ money is a top priority,” said Nightengale.

Nightengale has received the Basic, Advanced I, and Advanced II certification for County Treasurers through the Oklahoma State University County Training Program, has served three terms on the County Treasurers Association of Oklahoma board, currently serving as Vice President, and is slated to serve as a board member of the County Officers and Deputies Association of Oklahoma in the fall.

“It is an honor to serve as your Washita County Treasurer and I humbly ask for your continued support,” said Nightengale.
