Voters in Washita County can take advantage of early voting beginning Thursday, March 27, ahead of the upcoming election on April 1. Early voting is available to all registered voters without the need for an excuse. It will be held at the Washita County Election Board office, located in the Washita County Courthouse. Voting hours are Thursday, March 27, and Friday, March 28, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Election Board Secretary Ashton Hymer encourages early voting as a convenient option for those who may be out of town on Election Day or want to avoid long lines. It is important to note that early voting is not available at regular polling locations.
Election Day Information:
On Election Day, April 1, polling places will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Voters should bring a valid federal or Oklahoma state-issued photo ID, a tribal ID, or an official Voter Identification Card. Those without proper identification may cast a provisional ballot by signing an affidavit, which will be verified after Election Day.
To check voter registration, find a polling place, or view a sample ballot, voters can visit the State Election Board’s OK Voter Portal at oklahoma.gov/elections/ovp.
Voting Assistance:
Voters who are blind, visually impaired, physically disabled, or illiterate may receive assistance when voting. They can bring an assistant or use the ATI device available at polling places for a private and independent voting experience. Those needing assistance should notify their precinct official or contact the County Election Board for guidance.
Election Conduct and Regulations:
Voters are reminded to uphold the integrity of the election system. While taking a ballot “selfie” is legal, sharing or distributing the image inside the election enclosure is prohibited. Electioneering, including wearing campaign-related items, is not allowed within 300 feet of any ballot box while voting is in progress. Only election officials and voters waiting to vote are permitted within 50 feet of a ballot box, with exceptions for media and those assisting disabled voters.
Additionally, consuming alcohol within one-half mile of a polling place on Election Day is illegal. Any voter who suspects an election law violation should report it immediately to precinct officials or the County Election Board while the violation is occurring.
If voters have any questions regarding voting, polling places, or election regulations, they can contact the Washita County Election Board at 580-832-3658 or email Washitacounty@elections.ok.gov. The Election Board office is located at 111 E. Main, Cordell, OK, and is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
