Candidate filings complete for Washita County offices

April 3rd marked the end of the filing period for candidates wishing to run in the June primary and November General Elections. Washita County will have several offices on the ballot, all of which will be decided in the primary or primary Runoff Elections due to all candidates filing as Republicans.

Current Washita County Assessor Rusty Bookout filed for reelection, and he is being opposed by Kolby Dowell.

Washita County Commissioner District 1 Bart Gossen filed for reelection and is being opposed by Matthew Misak and Chris Shields.

Washita County Commissioner District 3 Greg Chandler filed for reelection and is being opposed by Floyd King.

Current Washita County Treasurer Sherry Nightengale filed unopposed for her seat, as did District Judge S. Brooke Gatlin.

Oklahoma holds closed primary elections, which means only voters registered to the Republican party will be allowed to vote in the June 16th election.

Of note on the state level, current Oklahoma State Treasurer Todd Russ drew no opponents in his race and will keep his seat for the next four years.

District 28 State Senator Brent Howard did not file for reelection. Seeking that seat are Joe B. Buchanan (R), Rick Vernon (R), and Barry Dwaine Christian (R).
