Cordell’s ‘Mural Building’ demolition begins
Citizens sad to see mural go, but unsafe building must come down
After much discussion and consideration by city officials over the last year, demolition crews arrived Monday to begin the process of taking down the century-old building on the downtown square. Over a decade ago a mural was added to the front of the building, showcasing designs that were significant to Cordell’s history. However, after a long vacancy the building became infested with pigeons and other small animals which led to a horrible odor and health hazard. It was also found to contain asbestos which sealed the deal on the mandatory demolition.
