On Monday night Cordell’s City Council voted to proceed with the purchase of CKenergy’s Cordell campus, paving the way for a major upgrade of the various city departments’ facilities. CKenergy is moving their operation to their new location east of Cordell.
A purchase price of $650,000 has been negotiated. While an exact number has not been verified, property records indicate that the value of the land and various buildings far exceeds the purchase price, making this a smart decision that will allow the street department, electrical department, and other city operations to move from their current facilities into structures that are in much better condition.
The funds that will be used for the purchase come mostly from the 2024-2025 budget outlays for the demolition of the ‘mural building’. After the building was found to contain asbestos, the DEQ funded a grant to pay for the demolition.
This budgeted expenditure was combined with funds that had been accrued in the city’s Capital Improvements account. The CK campus will be bought without incurring any debt for the City of Cordell.
More details will be coming soon about the planned usage of the newly purchased facilities, as well as repurposing of the current city facilities.
