The Washita County Farm Bureau met Sept. 5, 2024, at 6:00pm, in the Farm Bureau Office in Cordell for the Annual , Resolutions, and regular meetings.
The Board and Women’s Committee met together for a meal prepared by Made from Scratch in Cordell. A Prayer was said before the meal and after the meal the Pledge to the Flag.
The Women’s Committee meeting was opened by Jordan Cook and begam with a Thought of the Day “Seeing the Good” presented by Lowayne Piercey.
Mary Peck read the minutes and gave a report of the Farm Bureau Open House, Washita County Annual Revue (Sept. 5) which was held all day today and many visitors were received for snack and review of the year.
Many reports were given. The Washita County Free Fair , held on Aug. 21-24, was very busy and all the committee members worked in more than one area, beginning as fair board members and working at the fair in various areas. Entries in the fair were made. The results of the Farm Hand Olympics presents by Farm Bureau with all county schools being represented was a good turnout. SWOSU Collegiate Farm Bureau members turned out to help as well as committee members, and Farm Bureau members. A special Thank You to Julie Kliewer. The Farm Bureau women arranged and helped with the guest. A petting zoo and hands on area was furnished by the Farm Bureau.
The Harper Vet. Group wrote health papers for Ag animals for the Washita County Fair and the State Fair. McKenzie Harper represented the FB women and Kyle Harper was in on the board. They also performed farm calls to ensure the health of Ag projects.
Sept. 3-6 was Reas an Ag Book and all members participated, reached all county schools and community children as well as grandchildren and family.
FCLA, FFA, and 4-H were also involved.
FB yearly meeting was attended by the Pecks and Piercey’s on August 15 at the Western Tech in Hobart.
Washita County had two representatives from Burns Flat/Dill City, 4-H and FFA at State OYLA Camp and State Capital Camp: Bailey Beggs and Braxton Barnett. Both camps were in June.
Nocona and Jordan Cook attended National Cattleman’s Beef Association Summer Business Meeting in January and Nocona was recognized as Top Cattleman under 40 in OK. Jordan is Vice President of the Angus Cattleman Group. They assist their two boys with showing their cattle and help various Washita County young people with Ag projects. Jordan’s dad, Jim Davis, was recognized as Outstanding Cattleman of OK and Jordan signed the Davis’ up as Farm Bureau members. Nocona and Jordan represented OK at the National FB meeting in Utah in Jan.
Larry and Mary Peck helped with the Sentinel Fair and the event was very successful. They worked with the Sentinel Ag teacher to have FFA members read Ag accurate books to the elementary students. They help several young people of the community with Ag projects and work with several state fairs. The women’s committee attended the open meeting with the board members to discuss resolutions and send resolutions to the state for discussion. The group gave appreciation to Monty Tucker for serving as District 2 State Board Member for the last three terms. He will be at the end of his term in November. He gave a short talk. Jim and Lowayne Piercey also worked at the county fair and Jimmy will serve as resolutions this year. They also serve with the school system.
The Washita County Farm Bureau Women’s Committee all deliver meals to seniors and provide transportation to and from appointments. They also provide meals to Veterans.
The Washita County Farm Bureau will send representatives to the State Convention in November and to resolutions in October.
